a glow
Posted: 09 Mar 06 2:52 AM
The other day I mentioned having something to alert people of recent activity on different parts of the site.  I came up with an idea.  Rather than the generic text next to it that says "new" or something of that sort, how about having whatever has an update glow?  Like a nice neon blue or pink, like the ground effects for the cars.  I think that would be a really neat thing which I haven't seen before, and would definitely go with the mood of the site.  It could also be a path, from the new post up to the members name, that way you could follow the neon light to the new activity.  I think it'd be really hot.

Yes, I've noticed that that some people are very attracted to that type of highlighting. They get very passionate about it and move quickly into the glow.

D'oh!

:)

I mentioned yesterday to Jimbolito that while CSS2 doesn't provide a property to give text a glow, but told him about a bunch of features we have planned that will make it easier to find people who are making real content.  Basically, we're building ways to find users that will scale to very large numbers of users, and when the simple list of users goes away, highlighting users who have produced content recently may not be relevant because there will be no simple list of users, and there will be other ways to find not just recent posts, but recent posts that meet your interests.
